The Barnstable County Dredging Department is seeking to fill a full-time Deckhand position for the support of dredging operations and related work. Successful candidates will have a high school education and 2 to 4 years’ experience in the marine environment. Preference is given to applicants that have experience operating work skiffs and outboards with tiller shifts. License to operate a Skid Steer, Excavator or Front-End Loader is a plus. Must be able to pass a post offer physical exam and have a valid driver’s license.

Applicants must be able to work over 40 hours per week, including Saturdays and Holidays, if needed (as overtime pay), during the dredging season (September through June). Position offers a full benefit package including pension, health and dental insurance, sick, vacation and personal time off.

Barnstable County, Massachusetts Septic Systems Test Center (MASSTC), a division of the department of Health & Environment, is accepting applications from qualified individuals to support the molecular microbiological testing of raw and treated wastewater samples associated with a study of the efficacy of wastewater treatment units for the removal of selected human enteric viral pathogens and viral surrogates. This is a full-time, grant funded position (duration of 27 months). All work associated with this position will be performed at MassDEP’s historic Senator William X. Wall Experiment Station in Lawrence, MA. A bachelor’s degree with a major in microbiology or related field, and three to four years of experience conducting analyses using PCR techniques, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and bioinformatics. Knowledge of enteric pathogens, including enteric bacteria and viruses, and indicators used for watershed studies. Knowledge of watershed science and wastewater treatment principles. Knowledge of the techniques used for collecting, handling, and transporting environmental samples.  Knowledge of proper field and laboratory QA/QC as it relates to environmental testing Ability to design and perform qPCR/dPCR experiments.

High school education and five years of experience with diesel, gas and outboard mechanics, hydraulic/pneumatic mechanics, marine electrical systems and welding. Experience operating heavy equipment and diesel engines, and marine and boat handling experience. Boat handling experience a must.

Ideal candidate must have a valid Driver’s License, and reliable transportation to and from the job site. Ability to acquire a hydraulic license (Class 2A) within first year of employment. Must be able to travel and work a rotating schedule. Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
