Cape Cod is known for its warm sea breezes, 559.6 miles (900 km) of unspoiled coastline, and breathtaking scenic vistas. Generations of families return year after year to reclaim memories of sandcastles, flip-flops, and fried clams, while others come to enjoy the world’s finest beaches or explore a region rich in history, arts, and culture.

With 15 distinctive towns, exquisite gardens, quaint shops, New England’s best golf, fine dining, superior accommodations, and an array of land & sea activities, Cape Cod has something for everyone.

Location & History

Located in Southern New England, Cape Cod is less than two hours from Boston. The Cape extends approximately 70 miles (112 km) from the Cape Cod Canal to Provincetown’s Race Point, spanning 20 miles (32 km) at its widest point and is entirely surrounded by water.

Cape Cod is deeply woven into American history. From the indigenous Wampanoag people and the Mayflower’s landfall in Provincetown in 1620, to the Camelot Days of John F. Kennedy, the Cape is home to many historic sites and landmarks. The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum celebrates the connection between the Cape and the former president.

The Old King’s Highway (Route 6A), the largest contiguous historic district in the United States, features the homes of long-ago sea captains. Meanwhile, historic lighthouses have guided sailors along Cape Cod’s shores for centuries. Provincetown, at the Cape’s tip, continues its legacy as an artist’s colony and fishing village, home to the renowned Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
