Program Staff
Misty Niemeyer
Program Manager
With a robust enthusiasm for conservation and community engagement, Misty Niemeyer joined the AmeriCorps Cape Cod (ACC) team in December 2024, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a dedication to conserving our natural resources. Having spent the last 16 years at the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Misty played a pivotal role as both the Necropsy Coordinator and the Stranding Coordinator for the Marine Mammal Rescue Team. In these roles, she managed intense and high-profile response efforts and daily operations, leading her team through challenging yet rewarding moments in marine mammal rescue.
Misty’s journey began over 20 years ago when she transplanted to Cape Cod to work with NOAA Fisheries in Woods Hole, focusing on the research and conservation of large whale species, including the endangered North Atlantic right whale. Originally from sunny San Diego, Misty pursued her education at Humboldt State University in Northern California and embraced the life of a seasonal biologist, traveling across the nation to research and conserve various marine mammal species in Hawaii, Florida, Georgia, and Alaska. This included studying endangered Hawaii Monk Seals, North Pacific and North Atlantic right whales, before migrating to Cape Cod.
Throughout her two decades on Cape Cod, Misty has honed her skills as a biologist and as a coordinator and manager of dynamic teams in conservation and disaster response. Community engagement has been a life-long priority, and she has served as a leader and advocate for an array of organizations and causes. In her longstanding collaboration with the ACC as a service partner (IFAW), dating back to 2008, she has worked alongside AmeriCorps members and staff, often tirelessly rescuing dolphins from the Wellfleet mudflats. She has continuously advocated for and highly regarded AmeriCorps Cape Cod and the impact it has had on the community of Cape Cod.
Now, as a member of the team, Misty is invigorated to channel her extensive knowledge and passion for conservation, disaster response and program management into directly supporting the AmeriCorps program. She is excited about the journey ahead and the meaningful connections and supporting the community through AmeriCorps Cape Cod’s team and members endeavors.
