BCREPC Releases Situational Report #007 February 25, 2026 (12:15 PM)

February 25, 2026 — 12:15 PM
Barnstable County continues coordinated response and restoration operations following the historic winter storm that significantly impacted Cape Cod and the Islands. BCREPC_ Situational Report_Wint…
While active snowfall has ended and temperatures are moderating today, substantial impacts remain across the region, including:
- Widespread power outages
- Ongoing multi-day restoration operations
- Secondary roads narrowed or obstructed by debris
- Communications infrastructure challenges
- Sustained sheltering and warming center operations
- Generator fuel and infrastructure concerns in some communities
There are currently approximately 118,000 customers without power across Cape Cod. Restoration efforts are ongoing and expected to continue through Friday in some areas depending on infrastructure damage and access conditions. BCREPC_ Situational Report_Wint…
Regional coordination remains active through the Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC), with continued collaboration among county departments, municipalities, public safety agencies, utilities, nonprofit partners, and state agencies.
The next regional coordination call is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25 at 4:00 PM.
Travel
The statewide travel ban remains lifted. Residents are encouraged to limit travel where possible to allow utility and cleanup crews safe access to roadways, neighborhoods, and restoration sites. BCREPC_ Situational Report_Wint…
Primary routes are largely passable; however, many secondary roads remain narrowed or partially obstructed due to snowbanks, fallen limbs, and downed wires.
Impacts
Snowfall
Significant totals of heavy, wet snow resulted in extensive tree damage and strain on electrical infrastructure across Cape Cod.
Plowing, debris removal, and roadway clearing operations continue in all communities.
A brief period of mixed precipitation is expected today with minimal additional accumulation. No significant wind impacts are anticipated.
Timing and Temperature Impacts
Temperatures are expected to remain above freezing today, assisting with snow melt and access improvements.
Colder conditions are anticipated later in the week, with upper 20s possible Friday night and another cold air outbreak possible Sunday into Monday.
Wind and Power Impacts
Utility crews continue restoration efforts across the region.
Approximately 118,000 customers remain without power. Restoration prioritizes:
- Public safety facilities
- Critical infrastructure
- Regional shelters
- Largest circuits serving the most customers
Global Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) for substantially complete restoration is currently 11:59 PM Friday, February 27, though some individual outages may restore sooner.
Infrastructure Concerns
Officials are monitoring potential secondary impacts in homes that have been without heat for multiple days, including frozen or burst pipes that may not be discovered until power and heat are restored.
Utilities, Health, and Transportation Readiness (Cape Cod & Islands)
Utilities
Eversource reports approximately 2,000 crews deployed statewide, with a significant concentration working on Cape Cod.
Restoration priorities include shelters, water and sewer infrastructure, and public safety facilities.
Telecommunications
A Verizon central office generator failure in Falmouth caused temporary disruption but has been repaired and service restored.
Additional generators are being deployed to priority telecommunications facilities. Comcast continues restoration as power returns.
Public safety radio impacts remain under monitoring:
- Wellfleet tower remains down
- Temporary solution active in Truro
- Sheriff’s Office dispatch remains upstaffed
Healthcare
Cape Cod Healthcare hospitals remain on normal power and operating at typical capacity.
Outer Cape Health Services continues operating on generator power with limited services.
Pharmacies in Wellfleet and Provincetown are open while generators remain stable.
Residents are reminded that shelters are intended for cold-related needs and unsafe living conditions. Emergency rooms should be reserved for true medical emergencies.

CCRTA has resumed full traditional service operations:
- Operating hours: 5:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- Shelter transport and bulk food deliveries ongoing
