Storm Update – 3:30 PM | Feb. 21
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard as confidence increases in a high-impact winter storm expected Sunday night into Monday. Nantucket remains under a Winter Storm Watch.
For Barnstable County, this means:
➡️ 12–18” of heavy, wet snow possible, with locally higher amounts not ruled out
➡️ Peak snowfall after 2 AM Monday into Monday afternoon
➡️ Northeast wind gusts 40–60 mph, with isolated gusts near 70 mph
➡️ Travel conditions may become difficult to impossible Monday
➡️ Coastal flooding possible, especially during the Monday morning high tide
➡️ Power outages possible due to heavy snow and strong winds
The strongest winds are expected between 3 AM and 5 PM Monday.
Residents are encouraged to complete preparations this evening and avoid unnecessary travel Monday if possible.
For general preparedness, now is a good time for residents to consider the following:
➡️ Charge phones and essential devices in advance
➡️ Have basic food, water, and medications on hand
➡️ Secure loose outdoor items ahead of strong winds
➡️ Limit unnecessary travel during peak storm conditions
➡️ Check in with neighbors, older adults, or anyone who may need assistance
➡️ Bring pets indoors and ensure they have adequate supplies
➡️ If using a generator, operate it outdoors and away from windows and doors
➡️ Continue to monitor local forecasts and official updates
