Programs & Toolkits
The Barnstable County Department of Human Services and Regional Substance Use Council are proud to partner with multiple organizations across Barnstable County to address substance use across the continuum of prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery.
Barnstable County Outreach Critical Incident Management System (BCO CIMS)
To combat the opioid crisis on Cape Cod, the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, Barnstable County police departments, and Barnstable County Department of Human Services have partnered to form Barnstable County Outreach. Modeled after Plymouth County Outreach, this initiative works to connect individuals who have experienced a non-fatal overdose that police have responded to with a local recovery coach in an effort to connect them with resources to make treatment more accessible. Current police departments involved include Barnstable, Dennis, and Yarmouth.
Escape the Vape
In 2018 the US Surgeon General declared youth vaping an epidemic. In response to this and rising youth vape use on Cape Cod, Barnstable County Department of Human Services has developed a vaping toolkit, Escape the Vape, aimed at providing youth, parents, and educators with the tools they need to reduce youth vaping in our communities.
Employer Toolkit
In addition to providing information about substance use disorders, treatment, recommended strategies, and workplace injury prevention, the Employer Toolkit also helps businesses calculate the financial impacts of employee substance-use disorders in terms of worker productivity and labor costs. This toolkit will help any business or organization navigate the complexities of dealing with substance use at the workplace.
