Discover the Power of Nutrition on Cape Cod
March is National Nutrition Month, an annual campaign led by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that encourages people to make informed food choices and build healthy habits.
This year’s theme is Discover the Power of Nutrition. Food fuels our bodies, supports our health, and helps communities thrive.
Healthy eating does not have to be complicated. Small steps like planning meals, choosing foods from a variety of food groups, and cooking at home more often can make a difference.
Power Your Day with Nutrition
Choosing foods from different food groups throughout the day helps provide the nutrients our bodies need. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein foods, and dairy all play a role in supporting health.
Planning meals ahead of time can also make healthy choices easier. Creating a simple grocery list for a few days of meals can help reduce stress at mealtime and make it easier to include a variety of foods.
Reliable nutrition information is also important. Registered dietitian nutritionists and trusted public health programs provide science-based guidance that can help individuals and families make informed choices.

Nutrition Programs on Cape Cod
The Nutrition and Food Safety team at Cape Cod Cooperative Extension works with communities across Barnstable County to help residents build healthy eating habits and access nutritious foods.
Programs focus on practical skills such as meal planning, cooking healthy recipes, and understanding food safety.
Extension also supports food access across Cape Cod. Through partnerships with local organizations, Extension helps connect residents to programs such as SNAP, WIC, food pantries, and other community food resources.
Extension’s Food Access Guide helps residents locate food resources across Barnstable County, including food pantries, meal sites, and assistance programs that help families access healthy foods.
Food Safety and Cooking Resources
Cape Cod Cooperative Extension also provides food safety education and pressure canner gauge testing for residents who preserve foods at home. Pressure canner gauges should be tested once each year to ensure they are accurate and safe.
Extension also shares recipes and cooking resources that highlight local foods and cultural traditions. Programs like Kids in the Kitchen introduce children and families to local fruits and vegetables through cooking videos and recipes.
