Got a Creative Kid? Start Planning Now for the Barnstable County Fair Youth Exhibit Hall

The Barnstable County Fair on Cape Cod is known for rides, food, and summer fun. But one of the most meaningful places at the fair is the Youth Exhibit Hall.

This is where young people share what they make, grow, build, and create.

From artwork and baked goods to LEGO builds, photography, science projects, and homegrown vegetables, the Youth Exhibit Hall celebrates the creativity and hard work of kids across Cape Cod.

Youth ages 5 to 18 can enter exhibits.

You do not need to be in 4-H to participate.

What Is the Youth Exhibit Hall?

The Youth Exhibit Hall is a space at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds in East Falmouth where young people can display projects they are proud of.

Each summer, fair visitors can walk through the building and see:

  • Drawings and paintings
  • Photography and digital art
  • Sewing and crafts
  • LEGO creations and models
  • Baked goods
  • Science and technology projects
  • Flowers, plants, and vegetables

It is one of the best places at the fair to see what kids on Cape Cod are learning and creating.

Why Youth Exhibits Matter

Entering an exhibit at the Barnstable County Fair is about more than winning a ribbon.

When youth prepare a project, they learn skills that last well beyond the fair:

  • Setting a goal
  • Planning and finishing a project
  • Paying attention to detail
  • Sharing their work with others
  • Building confidence

For many families, entering the Youth Exhibit Hall becomes a summer tradition on Cape Cod. Kids start planning in the spring and work toward completing their project before the fair.

By the time the fair arrives in July, they are not just visiting the fair. They are part of it.

Where 4-H Fits In

The Youth Exhibit Hall is closely connected to Cape Cod 4-H Youth Development, a program of Barnstable County’s Cooperative Extension.

4-H helps young people learn by doing. Youth explore topics like cooking, gardening, photography, crafts, engineering, and science through hands-on projects.

Many of those projects are perfect for the Youth Exhibit Hall.

4-H youth and volunteers also run the 4-H Kitchen at the Barnstable County Fair, serving family-friendly comfort foods to thousands of fair visitors. It is a chance for youth to work as a team, build leadership skills, and represent 4-H in the community.

Not in 4-H? You Can Still Enter

You do not need to be a 4-H member to enter the Youth Exhibit Hall.

If your child enjoys:

  • Baking or cooking
  • Building with LEGO
  • Drawing or painting
  • Sewing or crafting
  • Growing vegetables or flowers
  • Taking photos
  • Creating science or technology projects

There is likely a category for them at the Barnstable County Fair Youth Exhibit Hall.

Projects can be simple or detailed. What matters most is that the youth created the work themselves.

Start Thinking About a Project Now

The 2026 Barnstable County Fair Exhibitors Handbook is now available, which means it is the perfect time for youth to start planning what they want to enter.

Ask your child:

  • What do you enjoy making?
  • What are you proud of creating?
  • What would you like to show people at the fair?

Starting early makes it easier to finish a project before the fair in July.
