AmeriCorps Cape Cod Announces 2026 MLK Jr. National Day of Service in Harwich

For Immediate Release - Barnstable - AmeriCorps - MA Serivice Alliance

(December 23, 2025) Barnstable, MA — AmeriCorps Cape Cod will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the 204 Cultural Arts Center in Harwich. This year’s event will highlight sustainability and service, featuring a winter coat and hygiene drive, a free pop-up clothing swap, clothing mending workshops, kids’ activities, and a complimentary community lunch.

In the weeks leading up to the event, AmeriCorps Cape Cod will collect new and gently used winter coats and hygiene items (such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner) at 10 collection sites. Community members are invited to participate in the ongoing drive by dropping off items at any of these locations.

Hygiene item and new/gently used coat donations will be collected until January 16.  Donation locations are as follows:

  • Sturgis Library
  • Centerville Library
  • Orleans Conservation Trust
  • Snow Library
  • Dennis Memorial Library
  • Harwich Town Hall
  • Harwich Community Center
  • Eldridge Library
  • Brewster Ladies’ Library
  • West Yarmouth Library

On January 19, attendees are encouraged to bring gently used garments to take part in the “bring something, leave something” clothing shop, aimed at promoting reuse and reducing waste. All leftover items from both the seasonal drive and the swap will be donated to the Harwich Family Pantry, supporting local families throughout the winter season.

The Day of Service will run from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and is open to all. Walk-ins are welcome for the clothing swap, and while bringing garments is encouraged, it is not required. Registration is encouraged for the free lunch and workshop sessions.
