Shore Side Update — Popponesset “Big Dig” Dredging Project

Significant progress continues on the Popponesset “Big Dig” dredging project. To date, approximately 52,000 cubic yards of sand have been dredged from the channel and placed along the shoreline, beginning at Wading Place to the west and extending roughly a half-mile back to the east.
On the shore side, Pastore Excavation is shaping the newly placed sand, grading it into a wide berm that slopes gently from the dune toward the beach. This work enhances shoreline protection and supports long-term coastal resilience.

The project is now entering its final stretch — about five days of dredging remain until completion.
Barnstable County continues to collaborate closely with local partners to ensure dredging operations support safe navigation, public access, and coastal infrastructure.
