Barnstable County Celebrates Hardworking Seasonal Workers of 2025

Public Health Assistants

Seasonal Public Health Assistants Heather Holbrook, Jason Adamsky, and Orla Delaney have been invaluable members of the Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment team this summer. As Seasonal Public Health Assistants, they support health inspections across all 15 Cape Cod towns, providing crucial assistance during the peak summer months. They conduct health inspections at a variety of establishments, for example, restaurants, pools, and grocery stores—to ensure safety and compliance with health standards. Their thorough efforts help protect residents and visitors from potential health risks, making a real difference in our community’s well-being.

Beyond inspectional duties, Heather, Jason, and Orla bring enthusiasm and expertise to the “Tick Talk” Pop-Up Education Series alongside Community Health Educator Marina Tonial. At events across Cape Cod, they engage directly with the public—offering clear prevention tips, demonstrating effective tick checks, and providing resources like tick testing and protective bug spray. Their approachable and knowledgeable presence helps empower the community to enjoy the outdoors safely.

Beach Sampler/Analysts

This month, Barnstable County’s team of five seasonal field/laboratory analysts continue to perform sample collection and analysis at over 350 fresh and marine beaches in all 15 Cape Cod towns. By Labor Day, the samplers will have collected over 5,000 samples in total!

Barnstable County’s samplers are trained in both field and laboratory collection techniques during their seasonal orientation one week prior to the start of the recreational bathing season. Due to a challenging schedule and fast paced work environment, this position requires excellent time management skills, technical precision, the ability to work in all weather conditions, attention to detail, and a positive attitude. This year’s team, Margaret Doherty, Andrew Bonacker, Norah NcCutcheon, Lillian Collyer, and Nick Bolio exemplify all of these qualities and more. They have been essential to the success of our 2025 beach program and the continued health and safety of our residents and visitors as they enjoy Cape Cod’s beautiful recreational waters.

Laboratory Assistants

In addition to the Beach Monitoring Program, the Barnstable County Water Quality Laboratory provides high quality analyses of potentially harmful contaminants in drinking water by assisting water departments on Cape Cod in meeting the monitoring requirements necessary for adherence to state and federal water quality standards. The Laboratory also provides analytical services to owners of private drinking water wells and weekly sample pick-up in Wellfleet, Truro, Eastham, Brewster, Falmouth and Mashpee.

During the summer months, when Cape Cod’s population nearly doubles, the demand for laboratory services related to surface water, groundwater, drinking water, and wastewater increases correspondingly. Our 2025 seasonal analysts, Ava Rose, Zaccaria Babchia, Kristi Ellen Durant, and Maggie Theofanides helped meet this need in both the bacteriological and chemistry laboratories.

Thank You to our 2025 Seasonal Staff!

The dedication and hard work of Barnstable County’s Public Health Assistants, Beach Sampler/Analysts, and Laboratory Assistants strengthen our department’s commitment to keeping Cape Cod healthy and safe. We’re grateful for their outstanding contributions!
