Public Meeting Scheduled to Discuss PFAS Mitigation at Former Hyannis Fire Training Facility

Barnstable County, in partnership with GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA), will host a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, May 29, 2025, at 5:00 PM to discuss the next steps in addressing PFAS contamination at the Former Municipal Fire Training Facility in Hyannis.
This meeting is part of the County’s ongoing commitment to public involvement under the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s (MassDEP) Public Involvement Plan (PIP) for the site, officially designated as Release Tracking Number (RTN) 4-26179.
What’s on the Agenda?
The focus of the meeting will be a recently submitted Immediate Response Action Plan Modification that proposes the installation of a Permeable Reactive Barrier (PRB), a technology designed to intercept and treat PFAS-contaminated groundwater. The barrier would serve as a long-term mitigation measure to help prevent further spread of PFAS chemicals into surrounding areas.
Residents, stakeholders, and concerned citizens are encouraged to attend and learn more about this effort, ask questions, and provide feedback.
