Children’s Cove Expands Community Engagement Staff to Meet Increasing Demand

Growing requests for community prevention education and awareness leads to new hire

October 12, 2023 (Cape Cod, Mass.) – Children’s Cove, The Cape & Islands Child Advocacy Center, announced today the hiring of Anna Colby as its new Community Engagement Specialist, reflecting the need for expanded programming at the organization, which is a department of Barnstable County.

Over the last few years Children’s Cove has seen an increase in need for all aspects of services and support to the community. In addition to increased referrals from partner agencies and calls from the community, there has been a demand for more education, outreach, and training across the Cape & Islands. To meet this rising demand and fulfil part of the strategic plan, the organization has expanded staffing in the Education and Training program.

“With the increased demand in outreach and education in our community, we have found ourselves in need of additional staffing in this area for some time.” said Children’s Cove Director, Stacy Gallagher. Thanks to grant funding through the Massachusetts Children’s Alliance, we were able to create this much needed position to increase our reach in the community.”

Anna Colby joins Children’s Cove as the Community Engagement Specialist after working in education for several years. Anna received her Bachelor of Arts from Bridgewater State University and will support the mission of Children’s Cove by engaging with the community to build positive working relationships and raise awareness about child sexual abuse. Anna will participate in informational and outreach events, develop and coordinate volunteers, and support child abuse prevention initiatives.

“Our Education and Training program has consisted of one team member for nearly the last 10 years to cover the entire Cape & Islands. This is a great step to provide more for our community to increase prevention and early intervention for victims of abuse,” added Gallagher.
