Barnstable County Observes Indigenous People’s Day on Monday, October 9, 2023

We invite you to join Barnstable County in celebrating the heritage and resilience of Indigenous communities across North America.  In particular, we extend our recognition and pay tribute to the Wampanoag Tribe, the indigenous people who have called this land home for more than 12,000 years. Their enduring presence is a testament to their resilience, wisdom, and cultural richness.  As we observe this day, take a moment to reflect on their profound influence on our history and their ongoing contributions to our society.

While we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day and honor the Wampanoag Tribe, this day provides an opportunity to respect diverse perspectives and experiences.
