Marty Greene, Barnstable County’s new Fire Training Program Director

We are pleased to introduce Chief Martin Greene, a distinguished firefighter with an illustrious career spanning over three decades, as the newly appointed Fire Training Program Director at Barnstable County. With a wealth of experience and expertise, Chief Greene brings invaluable knowledge and a passion for enhancing fire service capabilities.

Chief Greene’s journey began in 1981 when he joined the Bourne Mass. Fire Department as a firefighter. Recognizing his dedication and commitment, he was appointed as a career firefighter/paramedic in 1985. Throughout the years, he climbed the ranks within the department, eventually assuming the role of Chief of Department in January of 2011.

One of Chief Greene’s notable accomplishments was his involvement as a charter member of the Department of Fire Services, District One Hazardous Materials Response Team. His experience with this team led him to instruct members of the fire service, law enforcement, public health, and state and federal agencies in hazardous materials and CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive) response at the Department of Fire Services/Massachusetts Fire Academy.

Chief Greene’s dedication and proficiency propelled him to become the Coordinator of Hazardous Materials & Counterterrorism Training for the Fire Academy. He further advanced within the Department of Fire Services, assuming the role of Deputy Director of the Hazardous Materials Response program in Massachusetts. In this capacity, he provided consultation and support to cities and towns statewide, offering his expertise in major and minor hazardous materials incidents.

Throughout his career, Chief Greene has attained numerous state and national certifications, including Incident Safety Officer (Fire Suppression & Hazardous Materials), Fire Instructor III, Fire Officer IV, and Chief Fire Officer credentials from the Massachusetts Fire Service Commission. Recognized for his knowledge and insights, he has presented at various hazardous materials and fire service conferences on Hazardous Materials Response and Incident Management. Additionally, Chief Greene served a commendable six-year term as a member of the International Association of Fire Chief’s (IAFC) Hazardous Materials Committee.

Having retired from the Bourne Fire Department in February 2015, Chief Greene has remained actively involved in teaching and consulting in hazard mitigation. His unwavering commitment to improving safety and preparedness within the fire service community makes him a valuable asset to the Barnstable County Fire Training Program.
