HUD Awards over $1.37M to Cape and Islands Homelessness Programs

The award is part of HUD’s annual Continuum of Care Competition Awards

April 30, 2026 (Barnstable, MA) – The Cape and Islands CoC has been awarded $1.37 million in continuing funding by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  The funding supports nonprofit and government providers to quickly rehouse individuals and families experiencing homelessness.  The new contracts will fund these projects through 2027.

Funding through the CoC program provides permanent supportive housing for chronically homeless individuals on the Cape and Islands and covers administrative and operational costs. Additionally, this funding round included the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) Host Homes and YHDP Comprehensive Support for Youth and Young Adults programs operated by Homeless Prevention Council.

As the lead entity for the Cape and Islands CoC, the Barnstable County Department of Human Services is responsible for submission of an annual Consolidated Application for its regional partners. Grantees in this round of funding include Barnstable County, Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC), and the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and Homeless Prevention Council, all of whom were funded as requested.

“With this funding, the region can continue providing critical services to those who need them most,” said Joseph Pacheco, Barnstable County’s Director of Human Services. “Working with HUD and our community partners, we’re able to make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Nationally, HUD announced over $1.09 billion in funding this round.  In the next round HUD will be considering additional funding requests from Cape and Islands partners amounting to  $1.97 million.

The list of grantees and funded projects for all states and territories can be found at HUD 2025 Q2 Awards.
