Barnstable County’s Water Lab Showcases Career Pathways at WaterWorks Event

The Barnstable County Water Quality Laboratory participated in WaterWorks on January 13, 2026, at Cape Cod Community College to engage with students and community members about its services, mission, and career pathways. WaterWorks is a regional event designed to introduce Cape & Islands students to local career opportunities, with a focus on the “Blue Economy”. The “Blue Economy” refers to the sustainable use of marine, lake, or other aquatic resources in support of economic development objectives.
This marked the laboratory’s third year attending the event. Staff shared information about the lab’s important work protecting local water quality, its collaboration with partner organizations such as MASSTC, APCC, and the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition, and exciting seasonal employment opportunities for students, including Beach Sampler and Lab Assistant positions. The event combined elements of a career fair and educational expo, helping raise awareness among high school students about potential future careers with the Water Lab and Barnstable County.
