A Community United: Public Health in the Heart of the Outer Cape

On November 1, 2025, the Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment’s Public-Health Nursing Division partnered with the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod (ASGCC) in Provincetown to provide free Mpox and Hepatitis A vaccinations at ASGCC’s drop-in center on Commercial Street.

The event aimed to strengthen disease prevention among residents, workers, and visitors in the Outer Cape. Walk-ins were welcome, and nurses offered both the vaccines and health education and resources.

This collaboration highlighted the power of community-based public health: pairing county nurses with trusted local organizations to reduce barriers, reach underserved populations, and promote wellness.

By bringing vaccines directly to the community in a familiar, welcoming setting, Barnstable County and ASGCC demonstrated what effective public health looks like – accessible, compassionate, and collaborative.
