Warm Temperatures with Chance of Severe Thunderstorms for Thursday
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for northern CT, Northern RI, and much of MA for Thursday, June 19th. Hot and humid conditions are expected, with heat index values ranging from the upper 90s to low 100s. While this advisory excludes the Cape and Islands, the weather will still be fairly steamy in our region, with temperatures expected to reach the mid-80s and 90s.
Additionally, there is a risk for severe thunderstorms between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2025. Risk for severe storms is greatest primarily across the interior of southern New England (risk is lower for Eastern MA, including Cape Cod and the Islands). Anyone traveling through this area should maintain situational awareness and be aware of potential hazards such as straight-line wind damage, isolated reports of hail, flash flooding, and even a brief tornado.
While there’s a fair amount of forecast uncertainty with regards to the exact coverage and severity of storms, as well as how widespread the most intense heat will be, it’s important to check the forecast regularly for storm watches and warnings and prepare for all types of hazards. Weather in New England, especially during the summer months, can change and develop rapidly. We recommend that you sign up to receive wireless emergency alerts. Receiving advance warnings for severe weather, timely emergency alerts, and information during a disaster is critical to staying safe during an emergency.
