Is Tick Control Helping? Cape Cod Residents Can Join a Free Study to Find Out!
Cape Cod, we’ve got an itch to scratch — and you might be able to help (without even leaving your backyard!).
Ticks are more than just a nuisance. They’re responsible for spreading Lyme disease and other serious illnesses on Cape Cod and across New England. But what actually works to control ticks in our yards? That’s what researchers at UMass want to find out — with your help.
What’s Project ITCH?
Project ITCH (short for Is Tick Control Helping?) is a New England research project led by UMass Amherst. Funded by the CDC, this study looks at real-life backyard tick control practices to figure out what really keeps ticks away — and what doesn’t.
Why You Should Join
This isn’t your typical research study. It’s chill, safe, private, and super helpful for our Cape Cod communities. If your home has a yard, you could qualify for:
✅ A FREE tick check of your property
✅ Evidence-based info about what actually works to prevent ticks
✅ A chance to help reduce the spread of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses in your own neighborhood
How It Works
1️⃣ Fill out this short survey — it takes just 5 minutes. Click here for the link.
2️⃣ If your yard is selected, tick experts will come by to collect tick samples and take a look at your landscape (you don’t even have to be home!).
3️⃣ Later this year, you’ll get results showing what researchers found — real science, right from your own backyard.
Your personal information stays 100% private, and there’s no cost to participate.
Let’s Defend the Backyard
Cape Cod is one of the most beautiful places in New England — let’s keep it safe for families, pets, and visitors. By taking part in this simple study, you’ll be contributing to important local research on tick and mosquito disease prevention.
