Connecting Neighbors to Food & Resources
At Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, we don’t just talk about community—we build it.
Last week, a story in The Cape Cod Chronicle highlighted the power of collaboration—how local journalism, community organizations, and public programs work together to support those in need. At the heart of that effort? Extension’s own Andrea Scarpellini, Food Access Coordinator.
When the Family Pantry of Cape Cod needed to connect someone with immediate food assistance, Andrea stepped in without hesitation—because that’s what we do. Every day, our Nutrition & Food Access team works to make sure Cape Cod residents have access to fresh, local, and nutritious food.
A Year of Impact: 2024 Nutrition & Food Access Report
This story is just one example of the work happening every day across Barnstable County. Our 2024 Nutrition & Food Access Annual Report showcases the many ways Extension is improving food security, supporting local agriculture, and educating Cape Codders on nutrition and food safety.
Some highlights from last year:
- 6,150+ “Land & Sea” food boxes distributed to Cape Cod families through the Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) program.
- School nutrition education provided to over 400 students, connecting kids with hands-on learning about food and health.
- Cooking demos, food safety training, and workshops that helped older adults, families, and food businesses learn how to prepare healthy meals and reduce waste.
- Buy Fresh Buy Local Cape Cod outreach supporting local farm and sea farmers, and food producers—because a strong local food system benefits everyone.
From farm-to-table initiatives to food access programs, we’re here to make Cape Cod a better, healthier place for all.
