Cape Cod’s New Composting Initiative

Cape Cod is making strides towards sustainability with efforts to establish a regional composting facility. Kari Parcell, waste reduction coordinator with the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, is among the leaders driving this initiative alongside Mary Ryther from the Falmouth Department of Public Works.

The project aims to transform a 220-acre former military base into a composting hub, addressing the challenge of transporting food waste off-Cape. With an $80,000 grant funding a feasibility study, this vision is closer to becoming a reality.
