Milestone will be celebrated with a swearing-in ceremony for 19 Members.

September 20, 2023 (Barnstable, MA) – Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod (ACC) is celebrating 25 years of service to Cape Cod during the 2023/2024 term of service. The milestone will be celebrated with a public swearing-in ceremony for its Year 25 cohort on Wednesday, September 27, at 11:00 a.m. on the front steps of the Barnstable County Superior Courthouse in Barnstable.

“Over the last 25 years, AmeriCorps Cape Cod has made a dramatic impact on the environment and communities of Cape Cod. The program anticipates that our Year 25 ACC members will help the program reach 1 million hours served to the Barnstable County since its founding in 1999,” remarked Program Manager Kat Garofoli.

For the next 11 months, the Year 25 ACC members will dedicate over 32,000 hours to address the environmental and disaster-preparedness needs of Cape Cod. Year 25 ACC members will be the latest in a succession of over 575 alumni who have served 990,122 hours since the program’s inception in 1998. The 25 years of service translates into an estimated program value of more than $26,265,000 accruing to Cape towns, state and federal agencies, and non-profit organizations engaged in natural resource management (land and water conservation), disaster preparedness and response, and environmental and community education.

ACC members contribute their time and energy to a wide range of projects that bolster County and Town departments as well as local non-profit organizations. Their activities include shellfish propagation, herring run clearing, wildland fuel reduction, dolphin stranding response, environmental program delivery for school children, coastal erosion control, and habitat restoration.
