The Benefits and Success of Barnstable County’s Mobile Fire Training Program

The Cape Cod Center for Public Safety Training supports municipal fire departments on Cape Cod through specialized training and resources, in line with industry standards and best practices. Their mobile fire training program has been successful in providing valuable hands-on experience for firefighters so that our Cape Cod firefighters are better equipped to handle various emergencies.

The program has been able to cover a variety of needs and trainings for firefighters from different departments, including forcible entry training in Falmouth in January, where they practiced how to break down doors and gain entrance to a building during an emergency. In March, the roof/ceiling prop was brought to the Bourne Fire Department where firefighters were able to practice cutting holes in the roof of a building, and in Dennis also they trained fire fighters using the gas prop pressure vessel.

The program has also been able to provide additional services such as annual mask fit testing for various departments including Eastham, COMM, Mashpee, West Barnstable, Chatham, and Cotuit Fire Depts. This is a crucial aspect of ensuring that firefighters have proper equipment to safely do their job.

West Barnstable, Orleans, and Sandwich Fire Departments have requested some of the training props for fall and winter. This positive response shows a true impact and need for more accessible and hands-on training.
