Volunteers will help with a litter clean-up along the Canal and are invited to a community gathering at Herring Run Recreation Area filled with fun activities, educational opportunities, music, food, and more! Clean-up supplies including gloves, buckets, and pickers will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Sign-up today at capecod.gov/2023-CapeCodCanalClean-Up. Pre-registration closes on Friday, April 21st at 12:00 PM.

April is also National County Government Month, and the theme this year is “Barnstable County is Protecting Cape Cod’s Water”. This effort focuses on local water quality initiatives happening across the Cape, including the 2023 Cape Cod Canal Clean-Up. Join us as we work together to keep the Cape Cod Canal clean and safe for the future!

Since 2000, AmeriCorps Cape Cod and US ACE have partnered to engage and educate the community about the importance of keeping the Cape Cod Canal clean. The Cape Cod Canal is the widest sea-level canal in the world. Measuring at 480 feet wide and cutting through almost 7 miles of land, the Canal is what makes Cape Cod an island. It is maintained and operated by US ACE. The Cape Cod Canal offers a variety of recreational opportunities for both visitors and locals. Many enjoy walking, biking, and fishing along the Canal’s service roads and shores.
