Happy 2023 AmeriCorps Week!

This week is AmeriCorps Week 2023, and AmeriCorps Cape Cod is sharing stories from current members and several alumni that showcase the power of service on Cape Cod. Follow AmeriCorps Cape Cod on social media to celebrate along with them!

Avalon – Year 24 member, serves with Cape Cod Commission and Cape Cod Cooperative Extension
“My favorite project so far this service year was the Holly Grove project in Brewster. The area was beautiful with all the mature holly trees and the little fairy sculptures scattered about. I really enjoyed the care we took to keep the space healthy while also trying to leave it as it is. The partner took a lot of time to walk us through the needs of the project and the history of the land.”

Margaret Song – Year 4 alum, Evaluation, Strategy, and Policy Manager at Cape Light Compact JPE
“The variety of group and individual projects [with ACC] allowed me to see some of the most beautiful parts of Cape Cod, and the folks involved were some of the most dedicated professionals. I fell in love with the area because of the program.”

Doria “Dori” Gedraitis – Year 24 member, serves with Town of Harwich Conservation/Cemetery Departments and CARE for the Cape & Islands
“[My advice to future members is] try everything! Everyone here is so supportive, and it gives you the freedom to try things that may seem scary or out of your comfort zone, but you may end of loving them!”

Jessica Whritenour – Year 4 alum, Vice Chair of ACC Advisory Board, Executive Director at The 300 Committee Land Trust
“Some of the [service projects] were a great challenge (clearing herring runs in cold, icy, wintry weather!) Relying on the team and staying motivated together helped with morale and optimism. We got a lot done through teamwork and good humor…we worked hard and had fun while we were doing it!”
