AmeriCorps Cape Cod to Celebrate MLK Day with Community Family Event

Dr. King Honored with “Growing Together Towards Justice!” Celebration

January 6, 2023 (Barnstable, MA) – AmeriCorps Cape Cod is partnering with local organizations and food pantries for its National Day of Service celebration of the civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr., on Monday, January 16th. This free community event will honor the life and legacy of Dr. King with the theme “Growing Together Towards Justice!” and will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center at 141 Bassett Lane in Hyannis.

Activities at the National Day of Service event will include creating indoor container gardens, healthy cooking demonstrations, and a dedicated children’s corner with hands-on games. The first 100 attendees will go home with a home garden starter kit as well as ingredients to make a healthy meal. Refreshments will be provided to volunteers and attendees.

AmeriCorps Cape Cod will be collecting food and clothing donations for Cape Cod food pantries at the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable foods, such as canned vegetables, dried beans, coconut milk, condensed- milk, vegetable oil, white rice, juice, and pasta.

This event is made possible by generous funding from the Cape Cod Five Charitable Foundation and the United Way of Cape Cod and the Islands.
