A release of oil and/or hazardous materials has occurred at this location, which is a disposal site as defined by M.G.L. c. 21E, § 2 and the Massachusetts Contingency Plan, 310 CMR 40.0000 (the MCP).  This disposal site has been designated a Public Involvement Plan site, in accordance with M.G.L. c. 21E §14(a) and 310 CMR 40.1404.  In response to the request from local petitioners in January 2019, Barnstable County designated the Site as a Public Involvement Plan site.  In June 2019, the Public Involvement Plan (PIP) for the site was finalized.

Barnstable County and its consultants and Licensed Site Professional are conducting the  Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment (the Phase II CSA) and Immediate Response Actions (IRAs) under the MCP.  The Phase II CSA is being conducted in accordance with the final Phase II CSA Scope of Work submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) on March 22, 2022.    The final Phase II CSA Scope of Work was presented at a Public Meeting conducted virtually on June 9, 2022.

A virtual public meeting will be held on January 30, 2024 at 5:00 PM to update the public on the status of the Phase II CSA work and the current findings.  Background information on the disposal site and the Former Fire Training Academy will be presented.  The public meeting will also describe the on-going IRA monitoring and groundwater pumping and treatment at the site.
