Emergency Preparedness Director Attends International Association of Emergency Managers Region 1 Advocacy Day
On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Chip Reilly, Emergency Preparedness Director for Barnstable County, joined emergency management professionals from across the Commonwealth at Suffolk Law School for Emergency Management Day on Beacon Hill. The event, hosted by the Massachusetts chapter of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), was held to amplify the voice of the emergency management profession and to engage with legislators on key issues affecting community safety and resilience.
Mr. Reilly met with Cape & Islands state legislators to underscore the vital role emergency management plays in protecting Massachusetts residents, particularly in the face of evolving threats such as severe weather, public health emergencies, and hazardous material incidents. His goal was to share insights from the front lines of preparedness and response on Cape Cod, offer local perspectives, and answer any questions legislators might have about emergency management systems and needs.
The IAEM also provided a legislative update and highlighted several bills currently before the Massachusetts House and Senate that seek to enhance emergency preparedness statewide. Mr. Reilly’s participation helped ensure that the unique challenges and successes of Barnstable County were represented in these important policy conversations.
