Announcing Cod Cod’s 2024 Household Hazardous Waste Collections Schedule

Collections allow residents and small business to safely dispose of unused or leftover common household products.

April 4, 2024 (Barnstable, MA) – Cape Cod Cooperative Extension is pleased to announce the 2024 Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collections schedule, with events being held across Cape Cod from April until October. There are many everyday products used in homes and small businesses that are dangerous to people, animals, first responders, and the environment if improperly disposed. Dangerous products include stains, cleaners, lawn chemicals and auto/ boat fluids.

“These collections are really popular. They give people a chance to get rid of hazardous chemicals and dangerous materials from their homes safely and correctly.” said Extension’s Hazardous Materials Environmental Specialist and HHW collections manager Kalliope Chute. “It’s a great way to make a real difference and help keep dangerous poisons out of the environment and our drinking water.”

Residents and small businesses are encouraged to bring unwanted household chemicals, oil-based paint, gasoline, marine chemicals, pool chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, mercury thermostats and thermometers, and similar household hazardous products. Items not accepted include latex paint, smoke detectors, and electronic waste. The 2024 schedule and a complete list of household hazardous products that are and are not accepted is available online at www.loveyourlocalwater.org.
