Cape Cod Commission seeking applicants for Climate Ambassador Program

Seeking studentsto work together to combat the impacts of climate change
For Immediate Release (November3,2021) –The Cape Cod Commission is pleased toinviteCape and Islandsstudents in grades 9-12 to apply for the Climate Ambassador Program,an initiative to educate, engage and empower young people on Cape Cod to work together to combat the impacts of climate change.
Studentswho would like to develop a better understanding of climate change, learn how to communicate effectively about climate, and learn what actions can be taken individually and collectively to bring about changeare encouraged to apply to participate in thefour-month program.
The Climate Ambassador program consists ofsevenvirtual meetingsto beheld onTuesdayafternoons fromJanuarytoApril2022.Students will learn about and discussa variety of climate-related subjects, includinglocal and global climatecauses and impacts, carbon reduction strategies, resiliency planning,andequityconsiderations.Studentswill havethe opportunityto show off theirknowledge andcreativity with a small projectdemonstratinghow they canhave a personal impactonclimate changeat homeor in their school communities.
Virtual information sessionswill take place onNovember 9th and November 30th. Theseidenticalsessions will be held from 4:00to4:30PMand are open to students and teacherswho are interested inlearningmore about the program.
Interested studentsmayapplyonlineatwww.capecodcommission.org/climate-ambassadors.Applicantsare encouraged to detail why they are interested in climate change, their current knowledge of climate change, and what they hope to learn or accomplish by being a part of the Climate Ambassador Program. A reference from a teacheror guidance counseloris required.Applications are due by midnight on December 13, 2021.
