Subregional Housing Meetings – Round 2

The Cape Cod Commission is hosting the second round of meetings to help build fact-based benchmarks of Barnstable County’s housing market.  The meetings will focus on gaps between existing housing and current and future demand.

Round 2 Subregional Meetings

Wednesday, May 31, 2017
Lower Cape, 9:30 – 11:30 AM, Chatham Community Center, 702 Main St., Chatham
Outer Cape, 2:30 – 4:00 PM, Wellfleet Library, 55 West Main St., Wellfleet

Thursday, June 1, 2017
Mid Cape, 9:00 – 11:00 AM, Cape Cod Commission, 3225 Main St., Barnstable
Upper Cape, 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Mashpee Town Hall, 16 Great Neck Rd., Mashpee

Highlights from the demographics analysis performed by Crane Associates are as follows:

  • Barnstable County populations will grow by about 3.3% by 2025
  • Employment will increase by 5.5% over the same period
  • Year-round units compete against a very strong opponent (seasonal units)
  • Conversion to season units will continue and present supply challenges
  • Without seasonal unit challenges, there would be adequate supply

The Department supports regional efforts by convening the Cape and Islands Regional Network on Homelessness, serving as the collaborative applicant for the HUD-funded Continuum of Care Grant Program, and administering the HOME Investment Partnership Program.
