Pilgrim Plant to Close by 2019

Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station will be closing by 2019, but Cape Cod’s plan for a radiological disaster will stay the same for the foreseeable future: to shelter in place.

Pilgrim owner Entergy Corp. announced Tuesday it has decided to close Pilgrim, the state’s only nuclear power plant, no later than June 2019, saying it is no longer financially viable amid falling revenue, increased operating costs and a difficult energy market. Entergy will not have a specific timeline for closing the plant, which employs about 600 permanent workers, until next year.
