BCREPC storm update: no shelter activation planned

BARNSTABLE – The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a conference call at 12 noon Wednesday, March 26, 2014, regarding the current storm.

Based on input from public safety officials, the comparatively limited extent of power outages and progressive estimates of repair times from NSTAR, the BCREPC has determined that the Barnstable County Regional Shelter System will not be activated at this time.

The BCREPC will continue to monitor the situation and Regional Shelter System volunteer personnel will remain on standby.

The Barnstable County Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) has been in operation since 2 a.m. Wednesday and will remain in operation until instructed to close by the BCREPC. In addition to personnel from the Barnstable County Incident Management Team, the MACC has been staffed by representatives from NSTAR, the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).

The BCREPC will hold another conference call at 4 p.m.
