Public Health Nursing Division Works with Local Partners to Provide Vaccines at Touch-a-Truck Event
The Barnstable County Public Health Nursing Division’s Public Immunization Program offers all immunizations, including flu vaccine, to County residents. The Program provides vaccines on request for schools and municipalities, including fire and police, and is happy to work with towns to provide vaccinations during planned events and community engagements.
For this particular event which took place on Wednesday, August 16th, our nurses provided catch-up vaccines to children returning to school this fall.
The event was organized by Barnstable Public School’s Family and Community Engagement Center and included the following participants: the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, Hyannis Fire Department, Cape Abilities Farm, AmplifyPOC, Y Achievers, WIC, Cape Cod Family Resource Center, Team Maureen and the Health Ministry. These social service organizations were invited to share vital community resources with anyone who might benefit.
Kids and families had an opportunity to explore the fire station, trucks, and equipment under the supervision of Hyannis firefighters. It was a welcome distraction for youth who were receiving their vaccinations. Many thanks to Hyannis Fire for providing the facility and hosting this impactful community event!
