High Wind Watch Issued for All of Eastern Massachusetts Friday Morning through Saturday Afternoon

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for Friday, December 23rd through Saturday, December 24th. The following are expected to impact Cape Cod and the Islands:

  • Damaging winds up to 65 MPH Friday from the south or southeast, and strong west/southwest winds up to 45 MPH Saturday, which could affect power restoration efforts for any outages that may occur.
  • Rainfall in eastern MA is expected to be in the 1.24″ to 1.50″ range, with the possibility for heavier rainfall totals.
  • Minor to Moderate coastal flooding along parts of both the east and south coasts during the Friday morning high tide, and for the south coast during the evening high tide. 
  • Hazardous winds and seas for marine travel.

The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee will continue to monitor storm hazards as they arise. While the precise timing of events during the storm remains uncertain, winds are expected to ramp up Thursday night, with the heaviest winds taking place early to mid-Friday morning.
