Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission Announces the Annual Malcolm McDowell Award Competition

(June 6, 2022 – Barnstable, MA) – The Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission is seeking nominations for the Annual Malcolm McDowell Human Rights Award. Nominations are due by June 30, 2022.

The award honors Malcolm McDowell, a human rights activist and former member of the Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission.

The award is given to a Cape Cod high school student who has participated in the Human Rights Academy or their school Human Rights Club and has demonstrated initiative, leadership, and dedication to improving the human rights atmosphere of Barnstable County and the wider world.

A $500 gift certificate will be presented to the Awardee.

A complete application file must include:

• a personal letter from the candidate, in no more than 500 words, about the candidate’s experience with the Human Rights Academy, and/or his/her role in the school’s HRA projects, and why improving human rights matters to the student. The letter should also describe how the student plans to continue working on human rights issues in the future, whether at college, in the workforce, or the military.
