Low-flying helicopters to distribute rabies vaccines for wildlife on Upper Cape Cod
In an attempt to get rabies vaccines to raccoons and other wildlife, oral rabies vaccine baits will be distributed by helicopter and vehicles starting Monday in portions of Barnstable and Plymouth counties.
The distribution of the vaccine baits north and west of the Cape Cod Canal will continue through June 4, according to a press release from the Cape Cod and Southeast Massachusetts Rabies Task Force, which is collaborating on the vaccine project with the United States Department of Agriculture/Wildlife Services.
A low-flying red-and-black helicopter may be seen from Monday through May 8 distributing the baits in Bourne, Sandwich, Wareham, Plymouth, and other southeastern Massachusetts towns, the release said.
About 68,000 oral rabies vaccine baits will be distributed, the release said.
