Why the 2020 Census Matters to Barnstable County
Published on: September 3, 2020
Did you know it only takes about ten minutes to fill out the census? It’s safe, secure, and confidential. The future of Cape Cod depends on a complete count. Watch this video and hear from Barnstable County employees why the census is so important to our community.
The County supports a wide variety of regional programs that are intended to lessen the burden on individual towns that would otherwise have to deliver these programs alone; this includes managing coastal resiliency, water quality testing, fire and police training, dredging waterways, procurement, emergency management, hazardous waste management, programs to address challenges like homelessness and substance use, employing innovative and alternative strategies for the prevention and mitigation of nutrient accumulation in our waters, and much more. Barnstable County is the only county in Massachusetts to have a regional health department, which has played a critical role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
