For Immediate Release: Another Powerful Ocean Storm Threatens Barnstable County

BARNSTABLE (MA) March 12, 2018 – The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a conference call at 4 p.m. March 12, 2018, to discuss the approaching nor’easter.
Citizens should take measures to prepare for another significant weather event with snow, high winds, blizzard conditions, and heavy seas. The storm’s peak intensity is expected to hit around 8 a.m. Tuesday and continue into the afternoon. Travel will be dangerous and people should stay off the roads. Power outages can be expected. Electric utility Eversource will prestage crews around the Cape ahead of the storm.
The BCREPC Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) operated by the Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team will be activated at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
No Regional Emergency Shelter System activation is planned at this time, but the Shelter System plan is in place and ready for activation if necessary.
