Barnstable County Faces Frigid Temps in Storm’s Wake
- Afternoon high tide created significant problems along north and east-facing coastline
- Midnight high tide should not be as significant
- Bitterly cold air will flow in behind the storm creating severe icing conditions
- Citizens should be prepared for power outages
The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a conference call at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018. At 3 p.m. Cape Cod was primarily experiencing rain and heavy winds with gusts approaching 80 mph. The afternoon high tide brought substantial coastal flooding with road closures along the Bay side from Sandwich to Dennis and on the lower Cape in Harwich, Orleans, and Chatham. Bitterly cold air will flow in behind the storm creating hazardous conditions on roadways. Citizens should ensure that they are prepared for power outages and bitterly cold temperatures.

The BCREPC Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) operated by the Barnstable County All Hazards Incident Management Team will remain in operation overnight.
