2013 County Health Rankings Report Released
The 2013 County Health Rankings Report was released on March 20th by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. This is the fourth annual Rankings, ordering each county within each of the 50 states according to a selection of health outcomes and health factors that contribute to a county’s health. The Rankings are based on the Social Determinants of Health model of population health that emphasizes the many factors that, if improved, can help make communities healthier places to live, learn, work and play . Not just data alone, the Rankings initiative provides a framework for taking action to work together to improve population health at the community-level. The Department has a prepared a summary showing the rankings for Health Outcomes and Health Factors for the 14 counties in Massachusetts, comparing the 2011, 2012 and 2013 results, BCDHS Summary of Rankings and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute have issued the 2013 Massachusetts Rankings Report. From highest to lowest comparing Massachusetts counties, Barnstable County dropped in rank from #6 to #8 for Health Outcomes and maintained its rank of #5 for Health Factors. Barnstable County Department of Human Services will issue a report shortly that provides detail on the indicators that contribute to the Health Outcomes and Health Factors summary scores.
