AmeriCorps Cape Cod Faces Uncertain Future as Federal Funding Ends; Local Leaders Exploring Options to Save Program

April 30, 2025 (Barnstable, MA) –Barnstable County officials announced today that AmeriCorps Cape Cod (ACC), a longstanding community service program serving Cape Cod for more than 26 years, is at risk following the abrupt termination of federal funding.
The funding cut was made without warning or due process by the interim head of the AmeriCorps Agency, following intervention by the federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which had recently entered the agency’s headquarters and implemented staff and budget reductions. In response, Barnstable County is urgently exploring options to sustain this year’s AmeriCorps Cape Cod program and will present potential paths forward at a Special Meeting of the Barnstable County Commissioners on Thursday, May 1, at 11:00 AM.
The public is encouraged to attend tomorrow’s virtual meeting.
