Barnstable County REPC: no plan to open regional shelters

The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a conference call at 1 p.m. Sunday to discuss the impact of the ongoing winter storm. With power outages localized and an encouraging report from Eversource about the progress of power restorations, the BCREPC has determined that the Regional Shelter System will not be activated at this time. Individual towns can make a local decision to open warming centers if needed.

The BCREPC will continue to monitor the situation and is prepared to adjust its plans if conditions warrant.

The BCREPC advises the citizens of Barnstable County to remain “weather aware” and to be prepared for bitterly cold temperatures that will follow in the wake of the storm.
