CENTERVILLE — As the sun plays cat and mouse with clouds above Cape Cod this week, it might be easy for vacationers to forget suntan lotion, a hat or sun-resistant clothing at the beach.

On Craigville Beach, however, a small tent and a troop of volunteers, county staff and students served a helpful reminder Wednesday that forgetting to cover up can be dangerous.

Beneath the tent, representatives from the Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment Community Safe Sun Education Project handed out beach balls, T-shirts and bookmarks with information on how to avoid skin damage from the sun and how to detect it once it has occurred.
