NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING: Final Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment (CSA) Scope of Work | Barnstable County Fire Training Academy Site

A release of oil and/or hazardous materials has occurred at this location, which is a disposal site as defined by M.G.L. c. 21E, § 2 and the Massachusetts Contingency Plan, 310 CMR 40.0000. This disposal site has been designated a Public Involvement Plan site, in accordance with M.G.L. c. 21E §14(a) and 310 CMR 40.1404. In response to the request from local petitioners in January 2019, Barnstable County designated the Site as a Public Involvement Plan site. In May 2019, a public meeting was held and a Draft Public Involvement Plan (PIP) was presented. The final Public Involvement Plan was finalized in June 2019.
On July 16, 2021, a Public Comment Draft Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment Scope of Work was submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP). It was made available for public comment on July 20, 2021. A Public Information Meeting was held virtually on August 18, 2021. Several sets of public comments were received. The significantly revised and expanded Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment Scope of Work was finalized and submitted to MassDEP on March 22, 2022. The notice of the submittal and availability for review of the document was distributed to the Public Involvement mailing list on March 23, 2022. Electronic copies of Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment Scope of Work were attached to the electronic notices.
A virtual public meeting will be held on June 9, 2022, at 5:30 PM to present the final Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment (CSA) Scope of Work. The public meeting will also describe the capping and demolition of the former Fire Training Academy site and provide an overall update on the groundwater conditions across the site.
