Barnstable County Celebrates National County Government Month

This year’s theme, “Then & Now,” spotlights the County’s history and modern-day services

(April 3, 2025) BARNSTABLE COUNTY, MA — Barnstable County proudly announces its participation in National County Government Month (NCGM) this April with the theme, “Barnstable County: Then & Now. This month-long celebration offers residents a chance to explore the County’s deep historical roots—dating back to its founding in 1685—alongside the critical services and leadership that define County government today.

“National County Government Month gives us a chance to answer a common question: What role does County government play in people’s daily lives?” said County Administrator Michael Dutton. “From our earliest days in colonial New England to the comprehensive regional services we provide today, Barnstable County has always played a vital role in supporting Cape Cod communities.”
