Barnstable County Lights Up Green to Honor Veterans This Veterans Day
November 6, 2024 (Barnstable, MA)— Barnstable County’s Superior Courthouse will be illuminated in green light as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide effort led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO).
From November 6 – 11, the County’s Superior Courthouse will feature green illumination on its cupola and statues of notable figures Mercy Otis Warren and James Otis Warren. Now in its third year, Operation Green Light has grown into a widespread initiative, with counties across the United States participating to show appreciation and support for veterans.
“By joining Operation Green Light, Barnstable County reaffirms its commitment to supporting our veterans and ensuring their contributions are honored,” said County Administrator Michael Dutton. “This simple act of shining a green light lets veterans know they are appreciated and respected in our community.”
Residents, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to participate by changing one light bulb in their home or business to green. This could be an exterior light visible to neighbors or an interior light that sparks conversation. By shining a green light, we remind our veterans that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.
Counties and residents nationwide are sharing their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
