An update from the UMass Extension Landscape, Nursery and Urban Forestry Program: UMass Extension’s Green School is a comprehensive 60+ hour certificate short course that offers fundamental horticultural training in a compact time frame. This course emphasizes a systems-based approach to plant and land care based on current research and is built on a framework of Best Management Practices (BMPs) and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Cost: The early-bird tuition rate is $945 until 9/15/24. The regular tuition rate from 9/16/24 to 10/18/24 is $1100 (registration deadline is 10/18/24, pending availability of seats). Green School will be entirely virtual, taught by UMass Extension Specialists, UMass faculty, and distinguished guest instructors. When? Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 10/29/2024 through 12/19/2024. Who Should Attend Green School? Professionals such as landscapers, lawn care providers, nursery operators, public and private grounds managers, arborists, professional gardeners, landscape and garden designers, and others in the green industries. Both experienced individuals as well as those aspiring to be will benefit from this course. Choose from two specialty tracks: Landscape Management Turf Management (Note: The arboriculture track will not be offered in 2024. However, much of the content in the Landscape track will benefit aspiring arborists.) Options for Financial Aid Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Express Grant Program – deadline to apply: 10/8/24 For eligible Massachusetts employers, the Green School registration fee may be partially to fully reimbursed through the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Express Grant Program. Employers should submit an online application to the Express Grant program at least 3 weeks in advance of Green School’s starting date.
