HUD Awards over $2.2M to Cape and Islands Homelessness Programs
The award is part of HUD’s annual Continuum of Care Competition Awards through its FY21 appropriation
March 17, 2022 (Barnstable, MA) – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently announced the 2021 Continuum of Care (CoC) awards. The Cape and Islands CoC received $2.2 million dollars in funding for housing programs, CoC Planning, Coordinated Entry, and a Homeless Information Management System (HMIS).
New projects funded in FY2021 include an eight-bed project dedicated to individuals and families who are homeless due to fleeing domestic violence and the addition of four permanent supportive housing beds through a project expansion grant. This year’s highly successful CoC application resulted in a 9.15% increase over last year’s award.
The Department of Human Services as the lead entity for the Cape and Islands CoC is responsible for the submission of an annual Consolidated Application.
“HUD’s Continuum of Care program is highly competitive, and I believe the positive and lasting work of our CoC was recognized with this award,” said Joseph Pacheco, Barnstable County’s Director of Human Services. “It is great news for our region and this funding allows us to continue to make positive impacts on the region’s most vulnerable populations.”

Nationally, HUD announced over $2.6B in funding to roughly 7,000 local homelessness housing and service programs across the United States. The awards, announced by HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge, will provide funding to communities to help individuals and families experiencing homelessness move into permanent housing with access to supportive services, with the overarching goal of long-term stability.
